Breaking loose from White Culture’s self-defense mechanism requires significant emotional jarring, as it is deeply ingrained within its very fabric. It often amazes me how frequently videos of how systems of capitalism or communism are the problem, how often we complain about how black and brown folks behave, while simultaneously celebrating similar behavior in white culture. And to point fingers at the results of the problems our culture creates such as refugees, or dirty run down cities, C’mon really?!?!
When I release a video advocating for humane actions and reparations, I am met with hostility, called a moron, or ridiculed and accused of having an identity crisis. As if I owe someone something because we have the same shade of skin. I have even been told to stop pushing love as if that is the problem. If you spew hate and construct systems that harm others to get what you want, what kind of culture do we think will emerge? Answer – One of harm and hatred. And within such a culture, how do we expect the common people to be treated? They will be subjected to conditions that cause harm, fostering a cycle of hate.
Consider the act of wiping after a bowel movement. We instinctively ensure that waste does not touch our hands. But have we ever paused to reflect that the waste itself was once inside us? We willingly consumed it, allowing it to take shape within our bodies. That shit was already touching us. Huh? Please bear with me. An unhealthy thought process develops a culture of unhealthy living, therefore affecting our ability to enjoy life the same way. In Eurocentric culture we even make unhealthy living a core aspect of our society…
Complain Complain Complain
We complain about the powers that be who push such an unhealthy and harmful lifestyle. Yet somehow, we do not associate these powers to be with ourselves, our white culture. We complain about the government being bought and sold, betraying our trust. They have turned us into chattel and sell us out. We complain about the lack of health and care in the healthcare industry. Dubbing it names like Big Pharma. We talk about the “banksters” who ruin our economy exploiting financial weapons and tax loopholes to keep the poor poor and rich rich. We produce documentaries showcasing the predominantly white faces behind these harmful actions, controlling our government, and manipulating resources. Surprisingly, many fail to associate these actions with our own white culture.
Did you know that all of the drug companies in Big Pharma were founded by Europeans – mostly concentrated in Germany. Their earliest large growth spurt developed in Europe following World War II. Do we believe white supremacy in Europe died with the dismantling of the Nazi Party? Still to this day the largest pharmaceutical companies are headquartered in The US and Europe.
When you see pics of the banksters, harmful chemical and weapon creators what do the people look like? If an illegal immigrant of pigmented skin rapes a white woman, we use it as a calling card to stop illegal immigrants from entering our borders. Well, what should we do with white folks leading this culture of wickedness?
Why won’t we see this and acknowledge the harm of our ways? White scientists manipulate bees to create killer bees. We engineer fruits and vegetables to absorb harmful chemicals that we ourselves develop to ward off pests. These chemicals are known to cause and spread disease and cancer. All this not to share with other animals and keep away bugs that would eat fruit that went bad?
It is a cultural thing and we see it. Yet it is also a cultural practice to disassociate with our truth. Our response? To be angry and ready to fight for our privileges. We are triggered to buy guns and call out wokeness, CRT, and communism rather than acknowledge it is us. This cultural practice of disassociation with the truth leads to our anger. We are ready to fight for our privileges. We are triggered to buy guns and call out wokeness, divert blame towards CRT, and communism rather than acknowledging our own culpability.
Communism fails for two primary reasons. First, it was founded on principles of white supremacy, designed to consolidate power in the hands of a few at the expense of the masses. Or colonial countries manipulate countries occupied by black and brown folks through force of warlike tactics. We strip them of their ability to trade and gain access to our monetary wealth from selling the resources of their land. Then we make them dependent on our financial systems. In turn they became poor and desolate. We ignore the problems of harming the planet and cultures where the resources are rich. However, we conveniently overlook these injustices and falsely attribute the problems of socialism to welfare support for black mothers.
We find ourselves trapped in a state of perpetual confusion. We are aware that our government and education systems lie to us. We acknowledge the existence of a militarized state that spies on its own citizens. Yet, we continue to consume nutritionally deficient foods, endure low-paying jobs that barely cover our monthly bills, and witness the outcomes of an inherently unjust system. Strangely, we hesitate to include “white” in our description of this system, even when the evidence stares us in the face. That is some kind of shit we ate that we do not want to get on our hands. White folks are our own system’s weapons. And our own worst enemy. It is time to confront the uncomfortable truth and acknowledge the self-defense mechanism ingrained within white culture. By breaking free from our ignorance, arrogance, cognitive dissonance, and hypocrisy, we can work towards dismantling the harmful systems we have created. By recognizing our role in perpetuating injustice, we can begin the journey towards a more equitable and compassionate society.
