Protecting the innocence of our children is important as we look at how to build a humane world. Here is a story by Khaya Osher that is an example of the beauty of innocence in a child. Imagine what life is like if we feed and protect this in all of us. There lies a motivating factor for transforming our approach to living.
Which Came First By Khaya Osher
Shalom (my 5 year old son) asked me today, “Which was created first, the earth or the atmosphere?”I told him to ask God. He asked me, “How do I do that?”
I told him to sit down and meditate, to close his mind to the world around him, get lost in the blackness, and be aware only of his own thoughts. I said, “Once you get to that point, you can ask God your questions and you will get your answers.
“He asked me something like “How will I wake back up?”
I told him, “You won’t be asleep. You’ll still be awake and when you’re ready, you can open your eyes and come back.
“He said, “really?” I said, “yeah.” So he sat down on the couch and closed his eyes. I walked off. After a few minutes, he came to me and said, “Emah (Mom), the atmosphere was created first. “I asked him how he knew. He said, “because if the earth was created first, the sun would be too strong and burn it up; so the atmosphere had to be first to protect the earth. “I gave him a fist bump and told him he’s a genius.
I love these guys! The things that come out of their mouths never cease to amaze me.
